Raiders: Expectations
There are a few core guidelines you should follow and understand while in Eventide. These are:
Know The Encounters
The biggest source of slowdowns in raids occurs when we need to explain an encounter we already know to our raiders. As a raider, it is your responsibility to know basic elements to encounters -- especially anything that could wipe the raid -- before joining the raid.
Be Prepared To Sit
There are several reasons you may be put on standby in our raids:
- Your computer or connection has issues with an encounter;
- Your class or role is less helpful to the raid than that of another available player;
- You do not know the encounter or are undergeared;
- Your performance is substantially lower than it should be for your class, gear, and role;
- You have died or failed at a particular mechanic frequently when it was preventable by your own actions.
All of that is common sense. However, here's the most likely reason you'll sit:
- Other players have already sat, and now it's your turn.
We aim to keep a roster capable of fielding raids without concern about occasional absences or tardiness from our members. This eases stress on our raiders and prevents us from canceling raids when certain key people are missing; however, this also means that, when everyone is on, we're going to have more players than we have raid spots for.
While we will occasionally take volunteers, we find that the same players will volunteer to sit frequently, leading to a situation where people feel their raid spots are guaranteed by virtue of others always sitting. This is what we're aiming to avoid by cycling players on a consistent basis.
Understand that we do not recruit bench spots. If you apply to our guild, you are applying for an equal opportunity at raiding that all of our other members have.
If You're Online And Active, Be Ready To Raid
At our core, we're a progression raiding guild. While we do like to take breaks and relax between content, we also love to bring new content down as quickly as possible. Hopefully that's what you were looking for in our guild when you applied and joined.
If you're logged in and actively able to play SWTOR, you are expected to be available to raid.
We Do Achievements
We actively aim to complete meta achievements. We will treat this as progression when it does not interfere with our primary goals.
Raiders: Understanding Our Attitude
We've raided and led raiding guilds. A lot. Several of the founding members have been in top 0.1% raiding guilds through our gaming careers. With experience, we've come to understand things that stress us out and the kinds of players that are a bad influence on a good atmosphere.
- Being excited about getting loot is a good thing. Every player should care about advancing their character. However, talking about loot during a raid, or making comments even slightly suggestive of a piece of loot you're looking for is both distracting and obvious.
- Poor damage, poor raid awareness, showing up late, taking frequent breaks, not showing up with soul vitality at 100%, talking over tactical chat, etc., are all well-known and awful things. Often, the same people who have a problem with one of those have problems with several others as well.
- Do not complain after a wipe. Do not suggest we "can't do the boss" after a wipe. It doesn't matter if it's been two wipes or ten, do not demoralize the raid with this. We are all keenly aware of problems when they're occurring, don't compound it by working against a solution.
- If you're annoying to us, it detracts from our ability to focus and keep the raid moving. This isn't just for the general raid group, but if you personally annoy the raid leader, tanks, or healers by frequent chatter, etc., we're going to remove you from the raid and guild.
- Fairness is a broad term. Is it fair to make sure everyone gets a chance at raiding, or is it fair to give the people putting the most into their characters a priority? Because of the broadness and arguments involved with the term, we simply don't use it. We will always prioritize our best players when it comes to raiding.
We don't have enough raid time to let small issues stop us from progression. Please keep this in mind at all times when you're on our raid time.
Members vs. Raiders
Members are friends who are welcome to be a part of the guild but have no expectation of progression raiding. You belong as a member if you're a friend, relative, or fan of members of our guild. Members benefit from guild perks.
Raiders are players who are dedicated to progression raiding in Rift and can commit to schedules. Raiders must commit to strict raid requirements and will be judged on performance.
Merit, not seniority or guild tag, is the sole determining factor in who we bring to raids. Under no circumstance will we prioritize an underperforming or low attendance player in favor of a better option.
Members do not have any priority on becoming Raiders unless they previously were Raiders. If you are a Member seeking to become a Raider, please submit an application.
Recruitment
Eventide Members are admitted based on their relationship with current raiders.
Eventide Raider applicants will judged over a one month period for performance and attitude. At the end of this period, the Applicant will be brought to a vote among all Raiders. A single vote against the Applicant by any Raider results in a denied application.
Eventide Members and Raiders are restricted from giving any updates on the status of an Applicant.
